Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) bans the Chinese loan and betting apps after receiving several complaints. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) instructed the MeitY to ban 138 betting apps and 94 lending apps that had Chinese links.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has instructed MeitY to ban Chinese apps which operate through a 3rd party link.
The Chinese apps violating Section 69 of the IT Act and containing material considered a threat to India’s sovereignty and integrity were banned by Indian Government.
As per the information from the sources, these apps were used to trap financially strapped people in a debt trap, by increasing their interest on loans up to 3,000 percent.
People who are deceived by the loan apps have committed suicide and many of the users are exposing to the mental harassment.
The Indian Government has taken a decision to app betting and loan apps after going through several cases of suicides by borrowers of these apps in AP and Telangana states.
And also, Chinese apps are misusing the information of clients and getting access to the important information of many Indians.
Personal data exploitation in a large scale has become biggest threat to the country.
The MHA started working on shortlisting the Chinese Loan apps from past 6 months.
MHA revealed 94 cheating apps were available on the e-store and operated through third party links. The centre had banned 54 Chinese apps that posed as a threat to the country’s security in 2022.
